My husband's insurance was just switched from Blue Cross Blue Shield (which re-imbursed us about 80% of the cost of our home birth) to Harvard Pilgrim (which states in its introductory packet that it does not pay for planned home births). Has anyone successfully submitted a claim to Harvard Pilgrim?

Tue, May 20, 2008 - 5:27 PMYour best shot at reimbursement from an HMO would be to submit the claim yourself along with a receipt from your midwife stating that you've paid her cash fee out of pocket and a letter requesting reimbursement. Even then it's not promising. Plans like that are notorious for saying no and meaning it.
