    preemptive CONGRATULATIONS!!

I LOVED my midwife this last round (have three babes). She had just the right mixture of hands off, but there if you need her. She's a naturopath / midwife AND a pediatrician, her name is Jennifer Gibbons and she is one of the head naturopaths at the Natural Childbirth and Family Clinic. You can opt to birth in their facility, which is GORGEOUS btw with a giant jacuzzi tub, soft comfy bed, kitchen, couches, view of an atrium... wow.

Importantly, but not MOST importantly, her fees are totally affordable. We had insurance (which payed 90% of the homebirth cost). I think her belonging to a collective, helps.

She helped me facilitate the EXACT birth I had imagined and was there to peel me off the walls during the tough times, and when my husband felt like he was going to pass out!

I highly recommend Pamela Hines-Powell www.midwifemama.com/ She is n incredible midwife who truly trusts mothers and babies and the birth process... There is an amazing one media pictoral posted several moths ago of several births she attended...

I also know and can speak highly of Madrona Beaudrau www.mydwyf.com/

If you desire a birth center Andaluz is excellent...

      thanks for the info ladies!

i will check out these midwives, they all look wonderful.
unfortunately Pamela Hines-Powel is in salem which is 45 minutes away... :(

i need to figure out what my insurance will cover....
it says it wont cover home births except for low risk pregnancies... aren't all home births low risk pregnancies? or at least start off that way?

Pamela actually covers the Portland area as well. Over half her clients are Portland and Vancouver based...

Homebirth makes the birth be lower risk. Insurance companies are looking for things like Gestational Diabetes, Pre-eclampsia, history of shoulder dystocia or difficult births, previous cesareans, clotting disorders or other medical conditions as risks...

I am impressed that your insurance states that it covers low risk pregnancies for homebirths.

One thing you will probably need to make sure of is to have a Licensed Midwife as most insurance companies will not accept care to be reimbursed by a non-licensed midwife.
